About Prof. Iqbal Afridi

Dr lqbal Afridi, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was born in 1961 in Kurram Agency. He did his MBBS in 1986 from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar. Later, he completed his MCPS (Psychiatry) in 1990 and was awarded FCPS (Psych) in 1997, and was thus the first doctor among those of the federal and Sindh government to be awarded with fellowship in psychiatry from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP). He received fellowship (Neuro-Psych) from American College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1999, and the Royal College of Physicians. Ireland awarded him with fellowship in 2002. He was the youngest doctor to be awarded with the fellowship of Royal College of Physicians, Ireland. Dr Afridi has done a lot of work towards combating the menace of drugs in Pakistan and is also working as the Project Director, Narcotic Alleviation and Research Council (NARC) International. He is working as the Research Director at Karachi Psychiatric Hospital and has more than 50 research publications to his credit. He is the associate editor of Annals of JPMC; member of editorial board of Journal of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA) and Journal of Pakistan Psychiatric Society; and is a regular reviewer in JCPSP, PJMS, JMSP and JLUMS. His contribution towards research in the discipline of psychiatry is worth mentioning. Dr Afridi was awarded "Gold Medal 2007" for his contribution to science and technology by Bahauddin Zakariya Academy of Adabiyat, Multan. He received many other awards and honors including Avicenna Research Award, Legends of Math i Award, Sir Shah Sulaiman Peace Award, Award for Recognition of Teaching Professionals, Zakariya Award, DAYTOP Graduate Award etc. His details are also inducted in "Who is who in the 21st Century 2002".
